The Daily Gamecock is the editorially independent student newspaper at the University of South Carolina. I worked on the newspaper’s design staff at a time when we published five days a week to a circulation of 12,000 and received critical acclaim for our efforts.
As design director, I designed page layouts, special sections and other printed materials but also maintained the publication’s overall visual style. I managed a design team made up of 15 peers and trained new designers.
My work at The Daily Gamecock eventually led me to design for The State, South Carolina’s largest newspaper, which at the time had an average Sunday circulation of 111,588.
My work at both papers established my understanding of hierarchy in design and honed my ability to produce dynamic design solutions on tight deadlines.
